In order to not repeat the events of last Sunday, I took my “long” run indoors. The half marathon is in ONE WEEK (I got butterflies just typing that). As of this week it is officially taper time. I had a 5.0 mile run on the training schedule today so I pounded out those miles on the treadmill.
I did a 10-minute warm-up on the elliptical before jumping on the treadmill. I did my 5.0 miles at an 8:26 min/mile pace and then finished off with two more miles at a slow recovery pace.
The reason I stayed on the treadmill for over an hour? TV. I got caught up in the TLC show “Who do you think you are?” It is a show that digs into the ancestry of a few celebrities and they find out some cool things about their family history. That sounded more exciting in my head. I swear it was interesting! This is why the tears occurred. I was so caught up in the show that at the end of one episode when they revealed Christina Applegate’s grandma’s grave and she visited it with her dad, I almost started crying. Yup, so that happened.
The sad part about my emotional treadmill run is that it wasn’t the first time it had happened. TLC’s “Long Island Medium” did the same thing. I get way to involved in random TLC reality shows while on the treadmill apparently. Oh well, my run was excellent and I learned about Zooey Deschanel’s great great great great grandmother, so all in all I think that can be considered a success.
After my run it was time to stretch my muscles. That lasted 23 seconds. I need to work on that.
More importantly, I foam rolled my tight calves. They are the one area that gets extremely tight when I run.
Time to taper. I love this week already… I think the longest run on my training schedule after today is 3.0 miles. Don’t get me wrong, I love to run, but it is nice to have an excuse to run just a couple miles and call it a day. Sorry long run days, I’m tapering. I am nervous and excited for next Sunday, but most of all I am happy I will have some lovely ladies joining me and doing the half marathon as well!
The countdown is on. 6 days, 12 hours, 48 minutes, 37 seconds.
