Spinning my Heart Out.

I get way too excited to hit the spin bikes. All day at work I couldn’t wait until I could escape to my little slice of heaven… a spin bike. Apparently in my mind spending an hour on a stationary bike looking at the same wall is more entertaining than venturing beyond the walls of the gym and cycling outdoors.

The spin bikes are on the top floor of my fitness centre and considering it was almost 30 degrees outside, you can bet it was a little hot and humid in the spin zone. Good thing I am not ashamed of placing the giant industrial sized fan right in front of my bike.

I have a few spin playlists on my iPod on when I get on the bike and choose my warm-up song and then just let the shuffled playlist decide my workout for me. It makes time go by really fast because I never know what drill I’ll be doing next. Downside? When you get more than three hill songs in a row. I always have a rotation of favourite spin songs going on and usually they are hard hill drills. “Kiss kiss” by Chris Brown is my favourite at the moment. Every time he sings “kiss kiss” I turn the gear up and do a heavy hill climb, which ends up being a total of 8 increases. My legs BURN by the end.

I was listening to my iPod on my break at work the other day and one of my coworkers thought it was cool that I had such an ancient and retro iPod… uh, thanks? I think this iPod could survive an apocalypse. It has flown off the belt of many treadmills, been dropped, kicked and possibly trampled by a few people while racing a half marathon, it has been covered in sweat many many times, left in a hot car, left in the snow… yet it still survives. Second generation iPod nanos are champs.

My spin workout today went a little something like this:

All I Ever Wanted – Basshunter. Warm-up 90 rpm.
For Your Entertainment – Adam Lambert. Standing run repeats.
California Girls – Katy Perry. 10 second sprint with 10 second recovery repeats.
Right Now (Na Na Na) – Akon. Jumps, increasing gear every time I hit the standing climb.
Out Here Grinding – DJ Khaled. Hill climb.
Burn it to the Ground – Nickelback. Hill repeats with increasing gear, super hard.
Turn it Up – Stereos. Progressive repeats, 70 rpm to 80 rpm to 90 rpm and repeat.
Somebody to Love – Justin Bieber. Hovers, 10 second hover, 10 second standing run, and repeat.
Right Round – Flo Rida. Hill repeats.
Cross my Heart – Marianas Trench. Repeats of seated hill climb, 20 second standing run, 10 second standing sprint.
Like a G6 – Far East Movement. Hill climb.
Single Ladies – Beyonce. Seated sprint repeats.
Shooting Star – David Rush. Steady recovery ride, above 80 rpm.
Headstrong – Trapt. Standing hill climb to sitting hill climb repeats.
My Life Would Suck Without You – Kelly Clarkson. Sprint repeats.
Kiss Kiss – Chris Brown. Heavy hill climb.
Glad You Came – The Wanted. Cool down.

I was dripping. When I went down to do arm strength training after spin one of my gym crushes was in the weight area. I tried to impress him with my superior arm strength. I don’t think my half push-up and failed attempt at triceps dips was the way to go.
