I may have alluded to the fact that I bought new running shoes on Friday but they are so wonderful that I thought I should dedicate an entire post to them. Oh, and I figured I should probably run in them first to make sure they work for my feet!
These shoes are the Brooks PureCadence2 runners. They are the lightest shoes I have ever owned at only 7.7 oz. They are for mild-moderate pronation… exactly like me! I still love my New Balance shoes but I need a bit of a rotation in my running footwear especially alternating between treadmill and road running.
I wore my New Balance shoes to the gym this morning and did a 5.0 mile progression run on the treadmill. I ran mile splits of 8:57, 8:27, 8:13, 8:00, and 7:48. Then I changed into these beauties and ran another three miles. When I bought the shoes the expert at Running Room told me to start out slow in these shoes. They are lighter than most and to get used to them she told me to take it easy. No more than a few miles to start out to reduce the risk of shin splints.
I did 3.0 slow miles in my Brooks PureCadence2’s at about an 8:57 min/mile pace. Isn’t it amazing how different new shoes feel? They are SO light and it felt like I was running on clouds. I can definitely understand why it is recommended that I start out slow in these shoes though because they are a lot different than heavier shoes. One cool feature is the tongue. One side of the tongue is attached to the side of the laces so that it doesn’t move or slide while you are running!
I love these shoes so far and we’ll see how they perform in the next few weeks! Oh, and they are brightly coloured which is the BEST.
