Oops, I did it again.

Remember when I ran a half marathon just for the fun of it? Well, it happened again. 

I just had to run in the beautiful fall weather today. It was sunny, warm, breezy, and pretty much PERFECT running conditions. Despite my deep love for the treadmill I decided my body needed Vitamin D more, so I hit the pavement. 

I set out to go about eight miles. I wasn’t concerned about pace at all today and just wanted to enjoy a easy run in the sunshine. I felt really good throughout my run so I just kept going. I explored new roads and new paths and it was so beautiful out! I managed to find the path that links up to where I took some fall photos and detoured to run along the river… I pretty much ended up running around the whole city.


I didn’t push myself at all and barely even checked my watch to see what pace I was running. I ran by how my body felt rather than by the numbers. I ended up with a surprising average pace of 8:16 min/mile. I had mile splits of 8:15, 8:17, 8:19, 8:17, 8:11, 8:22, 8:12, 8:08, 8:24, 8:19, 8:11, 8:11, 8:27, and 8:05 for the last quarter mile. 


It was meant to be. My iPod playlist was on the last song as I stepped foot onto my driveway. How perfect! Yes… of course Miley Cyrus is rockin’ my running playlist.


This is the smile of a girl who just ran a random half marathon! I saw people in winter coats, gloves, scarves and toques… here I was in my shorts and T-shirt and I was the perfect temperature. 


I don’t know how people take ice baths. I attempted to fill my bathtub with cold water but I couldn’t force myself to sit in it. I had an ice-shower instead and blasted the cold water on my legs for a bit. Maybe if I sit in the ice bath with a cup of tea or something. Next time. For now, it’s refuelling time. 


Good thing my mom is making homemade pizza for dinner because that is my favourite post-run food! Now that I just ran a half marathon, time to settle in for some studying, eating, procrastinating, eating, hydrating, eating, reading, and eating.

  1. Way to go! Probably not many shorts & tees days left – enjoy ’em while you can!!
    And I had to do ice baths for my shin splints. A 5-gallon pail was bad enough I can’t imagine immersing half my body!! Ack!!
