Everyone in Alberta, it is now time to set your alarm clocks 3 minutes earlier to account for window-scraping and defrosting time. It was -2 with a windchill of -6 this morning and I got to spend a few minutes scraping the frost off of the windows while wearing my Runsie this morning. I had a jacket too, I’m not that ridiculous.
Once again I retreated to the indoors for my run and hit the treadmill at the gym for 9.0 miles. The first three were at an 8:27 min/mile pace, the next three at an 8:20 min/mile pace, and the last three at an 8:13 min/mile pace. I was so happy running this morning. I forgot how good running endorphins feel before the sun rises. Once I left the gym I already felt accomplished and it wasn’t even 7:00 am!
I do love to run outside though, so tonight I dug out my winter running gear in hopes of doing a run in the frosty air this weekend.
I was obsessed with my running headband from Running Room last year and wore it during the Hypothermic Half Marathon in Calgary. It is lightweight, warm, it covers your ears, and it makes you look bald… so that’s always fun.
This morning it may have been -6, but tomorrow the forecast says 1… what to wear, what to wear. My irrational fear of being cold while running tells me to dig out my favourite running tights ever but I have a feeling that ten minutes into my run I will be sweating like mad and regretting wearing pants. What should I wear?
Whatever I choose, it will be complimented by my fabulous running headband!
My parents are still away but I’d say I’m doing just fine making dinner for myself. Spaghetti squash, pesto, spinach, tomatoes, onion, sundried tomatoes, and parmesan cheese. One at a time I am demolishing our box of spaghetti squash.
Hopefully this delicious food will fuel my cold morning runs this weekend… or at least my treadmill runs if I pansy out again. I just have to get my Canadian on and tough it out… and then remember that when I’m done I can brew a pot of steaming chocolate coffee to warm me up!
