Torture Tuesday.

My spin instructor called our class “Torture Tuesday” tonight. That is 100% accurate. Either my bike was broken, or my legs were. I pretty much stayed at the minimum suggested gear for each drill… and it still hurt.

My instructor decided to throw a “twist” into tonight’s class which was a 60-second sprint every 5 minutes. No matter what drill we were doing, whether it was a hill climb, a pyramid sprint, jumps, or slides, we had to just crank our gear to a sprinting gear and rock 105 rpm for a solid minute. Ouch.

I came home and collapsed.

It may have felt really hard because in the 36 hours prior to my spin class, I had run 18 miles. (I never said I was the smartest person alive). I didn’t really feel sore from my 12 mile run yesterday so when I hit the treadmill before spin class tonight I decided my legs felt up to a bit of an interval run. Good thing the Habs game was on so it could distract me from my six miles.

My run was not crazy fast, but I don’t think I can be on a treadmill anymore without playing with my speed and doing some form or interval training so I alternated between two speeds.

Warm – up 1.25 miles @ 8:27 min/mile.

800 m (0.5 miles) @ 7:30 min/mile.
800 m @ 8:34 min/mile.

800 m (0.5 miles) @ 7:30 min/mile.
800 m @ 8:34 min/mile.

800 m (0.5 miles) @ 7:30 min/mile.
800 m @ 8:34 min/mile.

1200 m (0.75 miles) @ 7:30 min/mile.
1200 m @ 8:34 min/mile.
400 m @ 7:06 min/mile.

Total: 6.0 miles.

No wonder spin felt hard.

I came home from the gym to the delicious smell of roasted vegetable quesadillas. My mom had just put my quesadilla in the oven so that once I had showered it was hot and ready to eat. I don’t deserve that woman.

Goat cheese, pesto, roasted peppers, onions, zucchini, jalapeños, and tomatoes all in a whole wheat tortilla shell and toasted in the oven. Topped with avocado, sour cream, and salsa. Ohmigoodness these were to die for. I may or may not have had a second serving.

Of course there was a little bowl of salad on the side too. Pretty much some chopped carrots, dried cranberries, and iceberg lettuce with balsamic vinegar actually.

Perfect recovery food for torture Tuesday. I definitely have discovered some awesome spin drills to torture my future spin participants though 😉 However that “twist” of sprints was just plain mean. I think next week I will lay off the pre-class running!

  1. YUM!

Great job on your workout….even if you collapsed, LOL. 😉 I sometimes wonder why I feel stale and then I look back at my training log and see that long/fast runs are usually the culprit. 🙂
