Get your markers and glitter ready (dad).

MY BROTHER REGISTERED FOR A HALF MARATHON. I am beyond excited about this. When I started training for the Calgary marathon a few weeks ago, he started following a half marathon training schedule. My mom also began doing training runs as a way to slowly get back into running after some injuries. I warned Stuart that he should register for the half marathon in Calgary before the price went up at the end of March, and today he signed up! I can’t wait for June 1st even more now!

Race season is fast approaching (actually, I guess the Hypothermic half marathon series kind of kicks it off?) which I hope means lots of races for me this year. My dad has a permanent knee injury that he has had a few surgeries on and prevents him from doing any serious running, which means he gets to be the cheerleader at our races. I am so excited for the Calgary marathon and I really hope my dad is just ask excited to be our race photographer and cheerleader. With that said, I have found some of the best race signs for all of those cheerleaders out there!

Seeing some of these signs during a race would make me smile and certainly make me run harder. I love when people watching the race cheer on anyone and everyone. I have said that I want to go and be a cheerleader at a race but somehow I end up registering to run instead 😉 People are really creative with their signs!

There have been some awesome signs at the Edmonton Derby Marathon in August. Obviously bigger races have more people cheering but even small races always seen to have so much spirit! (I hope you got lots of ideas, dad).

What is the BEST sign you have seen on a race course?

  1. Wow, fantastic blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The overall look of your website is magnificent, let alone the content!

  2. Ah – thanks for sharing!!! I LOVE coming across a good sign in the middle of a race 🙂 There is something about a stanger taking the time to put some encouragement into words for the masses. Grumpy cat sign was awesome…as well as the “Smile if you peed a little…”something about that one (<– and the one that Erin mentioned above) will always make you laugh even if it’s not true!

  3. My favorite sign is one I saw at the Lucky 7 Relay in Halifax. It said “smile if you’re not wearing underwear” and I cracked up. I WAS wearing underwear, for the record.

  4. LOL….Love the Grumpy Cat sign! I LOL’d with the “if Marathons were easy…” sign!!! I always like seeing “Worst Parade Ever” on a race course. Last year at Boston, someone had a huge whiteboard saying “Spoiler: Kara Goucher 2nd!” I was so excited for her and when I finished I learned that he was lying! lol. It got my attention. Good luck to your brother!
