I can’t believe I am not sore after yesterday’s 17 mile run! I woke up and questioned whether I actually ran or whether it was all a dream and I still had a long run to do? I ran 3.0 easy (like, very slow) miles this morning on the treadmill, did 5 km of rowing, and 20 minutes of abs. I felt like I could have done more at the gym but I knew better that to push it after a long run day and called it quits before I injured myself or something!
I did a whole lot of relaxing after my run yesterday. My dad took me to an Edmonton Oil Kings playoff game! They were playing the Prince Albert Raiders in the first round of the playoffs. I really like watching WHL hockey games. It brings back memories of when my dad used to take my brother and I to Kootenay Ice Games when we were little and lived in Kimberley (the anticipation must be killing you for this WILW post)! I used to love going to those games… not for the hockey… but because we would get to have snow cones at the game!
Edmonton won! It was a fairly even matched game and there were no goals up until the third period. Prince Albert opened the scoring about a minute into the third but Edmonton followed with three unanswered goals and pulled off a win to go up 2-0 in the series!
One of the reasons I not only survived my run yesterday, but thrived during my run? MUSIC. I love love love adding new songs to my iPod and creating new playlists for my runs. I listen to a lot of country music when I am not running, but when I am working out I need some awesome pop music and great beats to get me in the zone. I think Sexy B*tch by David Guetta ft. Akon has been on every single one of my workout playlists since it came out years ago. It is just one of those songs. In an effort to spice up my long run, and have a new playlist for the gym (so I wouldn’t die of boredom during my stationary rowing sessions), I downloaded some new music.
A lot of the “new” songs I put on my iPod are actually relatively old songs that I just haven’t discovered yet. When I tell my brother about some awesome song I have found he tells me that he listened to that song when he was 12 and it is ancient in the music world.
My latest playlist has a lot of Pitbull on it. I promise I am not a huge Pitbull fan, but sometimes his songs are just what I need on my runs. I had to include a little bit of country, because I am Albertan and that is what we do 😉 I have had “Whistle” by Flo Rida on my iPod before but I discovered a remix with Maroon 5 and it is the bomb dot com.

I tried to figure out some awesome spin drills for all of these songs on my run. It made the time go by fast as I was picturing which songs would be best for hills, which would be good for speed, jumps, etc. I will have to share another spin playlist soon too 🙂
