I. am. nervous. After a three mile shake out run with my mom this morning, we spent the day listening to two AMAZING runners speak at the Calgary Marathon expo and then picking up our race packages and wandering around the expo. Bart Yasso and Dean Karnazes were key note speakers at the expo and I was really excited to hear them talk! I thought Bart was hilarious. He is so down to earth, funny and super nice.
We’re basically BFFs now.
Dean Karnazes was pretty awesome too. He used a couple of media clips in his presentation and you could tell he wasn’t crazy about public speaking but his stories are amazing and he has done such insane things that it is hard not to be inspired by the guy. A couple of my friends had their picture taken with him. He is much shorter and smaller than I expected… my mom asked but apparently he wasn’t willing to take his shirt off in the middle of the expo?
After the speakers, we went to get our race packages and pick up our bibs. My brother and mom are doing the half marathon tomorrow, my brother’s FIRST, and I headed to the marathon numbers to get my package. I am so excited that my family is here doing this event with me. The support we all have for each other makes races, training, and running in general crazy awesomesauce.
I saw my boss, John Stanton, at the expo. I creeped behind him while my aunt took a picture. I have never actually met the guy but have seen him at quite a few races. He always has a crowd of people around him so he must be doing something right.
There were the usual suspects at the expo… PowerBar, Clif, Running Room… and a bunch of exhibitors with information about upcoming races around Alberta.
Yes, I did steal two samples of white chocolate macadamia nut Clif bar… and my aunt caught me in the act. It was SO GOOD.
Is 2887 perhaps anyone’s lucky number? Let’s hope it’s mine tomorrow! My injury scares me, 42.2 km scares me, 15,000 people scare me… but what is life without a little fear? Wish me luck!
Catch’ya on the flip side!
