VEGA Review: Performance Protein.

I think one of the reasons I have been so into smoothies lately has been my obsession with this fabulous protein powder. Vega not only sent me their Recovery Accelerator, but a couple of other great products too, this Performance Protein being one of them.

In my completely honest opinion, I absolutely LOVED this protein powder. I hate tasting the distinct “protein powder taste” in a smoothie or protein shake and this stuff had none of that. I, again, like that VEGA is totally plant-based. I tried hemp protein powder once when I was avoiding whey and it smelled like fish food. It spent about 893 days in my fridge and then was thrown out when we moved to Alberta. This product was nothing like that!

Similar to most other protein powders, there is about 131 calories per serving, and you get a whopping 26 grams of protein. When I didn’t have egg whites for breakfast as my protein, I tried to include this powder in a shake or smoothie for a snack or for lunch.

I received the vanilla flavour for review and that was awesome because it was really versatile and DELICIOUS. I will say it again, Vega nailed the flavour of their products. This Performance Protein also comes in chocolate and berry flavours. I would love to try the chocolate in my banana smoothies!

I think the best thing for this protein powder was frozen fruit, almond milk, and a blender. I tried a bunch of different fruits and they all tasted great with the vanilla flavour of the protein powder. I make my smoothies really thick so they actually tasted like ice cream! My favourite was strawberries. You could obviously use regular milk, soy milk, rice milk, hemp milk, whatever suits your fancy but I am digging the almond milk lately so that was what ended up in my blender!

Blueberries.

Mango.

This Performance Protein is one of Vega’s “Recovery” products, intended for after a hard workout to rebuild muscle. I think it would be great for after a tough spin class, especially when I am ridiculously sweaty and hot and just want something to cool me down but also refuel me. I totally plan on continuing to use this protein powder because it works for me. Performance protein will definitely #fuelyourbetter

I am so glad I received the opportunity to try this protein powder because it was the bomb dot com. It tasted great, is 100% plant-based and vegan/vegetarian friendly, mixes well, and has a good texture that doesn’t overwhelm a drink. This is the recipe for my favourite protein drink!

Strawberry Protein Smoothie
#fuelyourbetter

1.5 cups of frozen strawberries
1 – 1.5 cups of almond milk
1 package (or one scoop) of vanilla Vega Performance Protein

Blend, enjoy, and make sure your friends buy tickets to your gun show.

Chocolate, vanilla, or berry? Were you one of those kids that scooped certain parts of the Neapolitan ice-cream out and left the rest?

  1. I’m a vanilla girl for sure. I was on the chocolate band wagon for a bit and then I got really tired of it…lol. I still have not tried Vega…I’ve actually not seen it around here. It must be an online thing??? I love your colourful smoothies!

  2. Going to have to go with vanilla as well. I’ve tried all three flavors (not this brand..yet) and vanilla has always been my thing! Great recipe by the way, gave it a try today. Was unreal!
