Running happy in my Brooks shorts.

Just over a week ago I was graciously given some Brooks apparel to try. I am a huge Brooks fan and have been running in Brooks shoes for years! They have always fit so well, lasted so long, and have helped me through many races! I was so excited to have the chance to try Brooks apparel. First up, I tried the shorts.

I don’t think I have worn Brooks shorts before but I really liked them! I really really liked the inside of the shorts. The Brooks motto “Run Happy” makes me smile. I have always wanted one of their shirts that says it on it because I truly believe we should all be running happy. If you don’t like running marathons, don’t. If you don’t like speed work, don’t do it. If you are content running a mile and no more, happily run a mile. Whenever I start to feel like I HAVE to run instead of I GET to run, I know I need to take a step back, slow it down, and stop putting so much pressure on myself. Running should be fun, so RUN HAPPY 🙂

One of the things I liked best about the shorts was their length. The pair I received was the Brooks Versatile 5″ Woven Short. I feel like so many shorts are super duper short and for some people that is great, but for a girl whose legs are like 4 feet long, it looks like I am wearing my underwear to the gym. The waist band sat comfortably and had a drawstring that could adjust the fit.

The inside had a pocket for your keys or iPod shuffle. It isn’t a zippered pocket but that is what makes these shorts so light. They aren’t tight and stuck to your body, they kind of float around your legs. I wore them to the gym a couple of times and they were perfect. On a longer run they may ride up a bit and could potentially chafe but that would be easily solved with some Body Glide. So far so good.

These shorts come in a TON of colours. A few black pairs with different colours of piping, and then a few awesome bright shorts. Brooks just started shipping to Canada from their online store THIS YEAR! How exciting!

  • How light they were.
  • The length of the inseam.
  • The “Run Happy” Liner.
  • Little key pocket that doesn’t add bulk.

What I would USE them for:
  • Shorter runs.
  • HOT summer workouts.
  • Those days I don’t want a SHORT short.
  • Gym workouts.
I really liked that they weren’t the typical short and tight running short. A great alternative and super light for hot summer workouts. This morning I had to wear capris for the spin bikes and didn’t get to show off my Brooks shorts at the gym. Without capris or bike shorts in spin I would be chafing like crazy. I actually made it to my spin class today (unlike last week) and then hopped on the treadmill for 8 miles! I was scheduled for a tempo run but switched it into a progression run instead! I love progression runs and mine was a little something like; 8:57, 8:50, 8:43, 8:34, 8:27, 8:20, 8:12, 7:59. After work today my mom and I are headed on a road trip… can you guess where?

Which colour of these shorts is the best?

  1. I don’t own a lot of Brooks Running gear, but what I do have I LOVE, especially my blue Run Happy mesh tank. 😀 I love the Brooks shorts that hungry runner girl has with the funky print on them. I looked online and they are crazy expensive! :0
