Edmonton Race Eve.

This morning I went for a little shakeout run with my mom. I decided that this morning’s run was going to be optional. I usually do a few miles the day before a race to shake out any nerves and get mentally ready for the big day but if I wasn’t feelin’ it this morning, I wasn’t going to do it. It was cool, and sunny, and my mom was going to join me, so I just had to go for a little run.

I thought we should do between 9:30 and 10:00 minute miles just to be extra slow and not stress ourselves at all, but my mom just kept pushing me to go faster. I was going to run without my watch just so that I didn’t even had a pace to glance down at but I wore it anyway because that is what OCD people do. I actually didn’t look at it once though so it was nice!

I got some nice stretching in after our run. I wore my new lulu capris on the run as a test run for tomorrow. I was originally planning to wear my old lulu capris but then they ripped and I bought new replacements FOUR days before the race, so I figured I should wear them once before race day 😉

After a delicious carb-y breakfast of oatmeal with peanut butter and banana, we headed to the race expo to pick up our race packages. The expo was 100% dead. There was absolutely no one there. My mom was upset because that meant people were watching how many Powerbar sample she took. I am curious to know how many people are actually running the race because very few people were there for package pick-up!

Seeing the set up of the start/finish line is kind of scary. The start/finish is in a different location that last year and it is right downtown so the streets are a little congested! You really can’t beat the view for it though.

When we were driving to the expo we saw where the Edmonton Farmers Market was happening and decided to stop there on the way home. Considering how crazy busy it was downtown we decided that if we were driving home and there was a open parking spot by the market we would stop; if not, we would just drive home. We made all of the green lights and there was a parking spot RIGHT NEXT TO the market with money left over in the meter. Fate.

Carrots fresh from the market taste 38089235 times better than store-bought. It’s ridiculous to buy 10 pounds of them, but go big or go home! Plus the tomatoes were the size of my face so we had to get some of those as well! I am wearing the new tights that I got from Lululemon the other day and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. They are nice and long (and I am almost 6′ tall) and they are SO comfortable and make my ass look great

I am officially carrot and tomato fuelled for tomorrow’s race. I just keep telling myself, “It’s just another run.” To finish this on a random note: I love this Roald Dahl quote…

Wish me luck and cheer loud from wherever you live tomorrow 🙂
