Motivation Monday: September 1

The start of a new month just feels so fresh! Especially when that month starts on a Monday. It’s like a double fresh start, plus it’s almost fall and the running weather is perfect in the mornings right now so I am pretty sure this will be the best month ever.

After getting caught up watching episodes of MTV’s Catfish last night with my brother until midnight, my 6:00 am alarm came far too quickly. My bed was just too comfortable but I know that once I get up, get dressed, and hit the pavement, I never regret it. The sunrise was GORGEOUS this morning and it was a perfect 5 degrees Celsius. I regretted not bringing my phone for a moment to take photos of the sunrise but it is never as good as it is in real life so I just enjoyed being the only one awake in my neighbourhood and soaked in how peaceful it was. 7 miles is a good way to start the day, and a new month!

I am challenging myself to do a wall squat (wall sit?) every day in the month of September. I start with as long as I can go on September 1st and then see if I can increase it every day for the entire month. By the end of the month I hope to be spending 63% of my workout just chillin’ on the wall. I did this challenge in December and by the end of the month I surpassed 10 minutes! Who knows what this month will bring!

What are your September goals?

I thought I would start September with a healthy smoothie after my run. I blended some frozen blueberries, a banana, plain greek yogurt, chia seeds, and soy milk. I was so proud of myself carting my purple goodness to work for breakfast. I am a big breakfast person and probably consume most of my daily calories in the form of peanut butter and carbs for breakfast. I always hear about people blending up green smoothies and protein shakes and fruity concoctions for breakfast so I figured I would try and become one of those people. A protein packed liquid breakfast.

Turns out when you “eat” a smoothie for breakfast, you are hungry like 23 minutes later. Ah well, I tried…

I am actually going to try and take smoothies to school this year for breakfast or a mid-morning snack. They are kind of delicious and I think if you add the right ingredients, they can be filling. My chocolate and peanut butter protein shakes fill me up for hours so I see many of those in my future! I am pretty sure chocolate and peanut butter in a smoothie kind of defeats the whole purpose of these “light and filling” liquid meals but I don’t care.

The fact that it is a new month and a Monday is pretty motivating for me, as is THIS103-year-old who wants to race Usain Bolt. Runner’s World also just came out with THIS list of advice from the best running gurus in the world! My favourite is the one that says “A strong butt is the key to a happy life,” hence the September squat challenge!

  1. I’m keeping it easy with my September goals and I’m just trying to stay on top of school work and stick with training 🙂 I fell off the wagon with my training schedule last week since I got so busy, so I’m trying harder this week. A smoothie sounds delish right now!
