Yesterday was a fabulous day. I BOUGHT A CAR! I had a Honda Civic when I lived in BC but sold it when I moved out to Alberta two years ago. I have been driving my parents’ and brother’s vehicles because I thought it was so ridiculous that we would have four vehicles in one household. Now that everyone moves in a million different directions a day in my family, it was time for me to get my own vehicle again. Many of the “errands” I have been talking about in my blog were car shopping errands. I have spent countless hours on AutoTrader and Kijiji the past couple of months looking for the perfect little SUV. I think I found it.
I went to see many different vehicles from many different people and nothing felt “right” about any one of them until I stumbled upon this beauty. It was actually being sold just a few blocks down the road and everything just felt perfect about it.
It’s an adorable 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara. I was originally set on buying a Toyota RAV4 because I wanted an affordable small SUV, not too bad on gas, good for driving in Alberta in the winter, and enough room for me to go camping in mountains or haul my bike out for a ride. When I found this one I knew it was love.
My mom is super jealous because I have a navigation system in my vehicle now. I was kind of high maintenance in this car search – just ask my dad – and I had a lot of “necessary” features on my list that probably weren’t actually necessary. Navigation system, back up camera, keyless start, leather seats, etc.
Alberta necessity: heated seats.
I was so so so excited getting the keys to the vehicle. Investing in something like this with my own money made me feel super awesome. I also learned a ton about buying used cars, insurance, registration… my dad was super helpful and somehow just knew everything. I couldn’t stop smiling yesterday. It was a tad windy as well 🙂
Now that I have this bad boy in my driveway, and it is insured to the highest gold standard (based on the price I paid)… THIS:
This is quite possibly the highest achievement of my Uncle’s life – HE MADE IT ON THE BLOG. We roasted up some of his fresh garden carrots for dinner last night and they were amazing. He brought us parsnips too, which we roasted as well, but they don’t take as long as the carrots in the oven so they were nice and “crispy.” It was amazing.
How cool is this? This is what the centre of a purple carrot looks like! Tie-dye carrots!
I am in love with my new vehicle and I am plotting out a road trip to test out this awesome SUV soon! I can stop trying to work on my orienteering skills now that I have navigation. I will never get lost. My butt will also never get cold again. Love it.
What kind of vehicle do YOU have?!
What is the BEST thing you have planned for this weekend?
