Weekly Workout Recap: Getting in the zone.

I had all intentions of running some decent mileage on the treadmill yesterday but thanks to the tropical humidity and heat of Florida being transported to my gym, that did not happen.

Short version of my run:

I got to see all of the sports highlights… TWICE.

Long version of my run:

My legs weren’t crazy sore this morning from spin yesterday so when I met my friend at the gym at 6:30 am, I set my treadmill distance goal as 8 miles. I felt that was a long enough distance to consider my weekly long run, but short enough that I wouldn’t die of heat stroke or boredom. I tell ya, running with a friend on the treadmill next to you is where it’s at. The first hour flew by because I had someone to talk to! My friend had just run 13 miles the day before so this morning was his recovery run (which is still faster than my normal running pace) and he hopped off at 50 minutes. I still had a little bit left in my 8 mile distance goal so I told my friend I was staying on the ‘mill for a little bit longer but when the warning popped up that let me know I had a minute left, I didn’t want to be done, so I continued increasing my distance goal to 11 miles. Once I reached 11 miles I targeted a time of 1:45. Once I reached that, I figured 2 hours was only 15 minutes more and I still felt great, so I kept going. Conveniently I reached half marathon distance at almost exactly 2 hours!

13.10 miles; 2:00:46; 9:17 min/mile pace.

If you have been a long-time reader, you know I struggle with drinking water while I exercise. It just doesn’t sit well with me most times and I have to take the tiniest sips ever. I am happy to report that this morning not only did I bring an actual water bottle to the gym, but I drank most of the water in the water bottle!!

When I finally climbed off the treadmill I was too sweaty, smelly, and tired to do any strength training. I felt SO SO SO good running and had no pain or soreness anywhere, but when I stopped running my muscles just stopped working. I headed to the mats to stretch.

I didn’t expect to run 13.1 miles which made my run even better. When I was sitting in my cold car waiting for the gym to open at 6:30 I was cursing my friend who suggested we meet at that time but once I was done my run I felt fantastic. I had run a half marathon by 8:35 am and the coffee tastes much better with breakfast when that happens 😉

I like my nails like I like my coffee. Black.

Today’s run finished off a lovely week of workouts. This week I felt I had the perfect balance of running and cycling. I only made it to the pool once this week because something came up on my normal Thursday swimming night, but I managed a tiny bit of strength training to round out the workouts. I just crept above the 30-mile mark this week at 30.94 miles total.

If anyone gets bored on Sunday mornings and wants to come keep me company at the gym, apparently I like to spend an inordinate amount of time on the treadmill. I think one of my life goals will be to run a marathon on the treadmill… I really don’t know why.

What did you do this weekend?

What is the longest amount of time/distance you have spent on the treadmill?

  1. I think the only way I can spend more than 5 minutes on a treadmill is if I’m there with a friend.
The longest I’ve done on a treadmill is 18 miles….it was terrible 😉

  2. Yikes. It been a long time since I spent “quality” time on a treadmill. Will have to think about that one. Nothing too exciting this weekend – worked yesterday & got caught up on life today. Short 10K run.
