Women in the weights.

My brother refused to come home from BC until last night so for the Oilers versus Stars hockey game on Sunday I had to replace him. A younger, brother 2.0, my 8-year-old neighbour did the trick and we had a blast. The game went to a shootout which is super fun to watch live. Shockingly, the Oilers lost (to anyone in Canada you probably know that is 110% sarcastic and not at all shocking).


Yesterday morning the gym was pretty quiet and enjoyed three slow miles on the treadmill, 30 minutes on the stair master (308571 stair master minutes) and 50 minutes in the weights area. I started feeling a weird twinge in my right hip on the stair master so I jumped off and went to lift weights instead. Normally there is 87% men in the weights area, which doesn’t bother me in the least, but yesterday there was 100% women. It was so strange. It’s like every single gym-going woman decided to make Monday strength day.


It was kind of awesome and I got a solid arms workout in. I did chest, triceps, and shoulders. I think one of my January challenges will be to increase my weight for certain strength moves. I do the same moves all the time and barely increase my weight, which is really ridiculous. You can’t spell CHALLENGE without the word CHANGE so I plan on changing that by challenging myself in the new year to try and really gain some strength, hopefully making me a better runner.


Yesterday I had a three hour customer service workshop and then a 5 hour shift at my job. I swear I was almost done work and I looked at the clock and had completed 17% of my shift… I was so bored that I actually calculated that percentage.

Looking at that photo kind of makes me want to cut my hair to the length it looks on the left. I have fairly long hair and it is hard to tame sometimes (especially in the pouring rain in Vancouver)… thoughts? The best part of work yesterday was the fact that my mom put this amazing Purdy’s chocolate bar in my advent calendar that morning. 88% dark chocolate is a winning fraction. Delicious.


I really hope this morning is another women-filled weight room because it is leg day and my calf muscles will probably intimidate the men way too easily. I absolutely love leg day because testing my leg muscles feels amazing and I love trying to get stronger. Squats really are a girl’s best friend. Does anyone else call today Christmas Eve Eve?

    I can’t go to the gym today (have toddler with me) but I will be doing some squats, lunges and glute bridges later on πŸ™‚

  3. I just love the chocolate & peanut butter mix. Every single time! I can never get enough! Today was a crossfit WOD that involve power cleans and ring dips. I used a light weight and like you, I think I needed to up my weight. It was too light for me. Something to think about in January for sure!
