How did I do it?

Huge shout out to St. Albert Sculpt Barre for sharing my post about the 5 Things I Learned in Barre! I swear it has been 87915084 days since Monday. This week has felt really long, and nothing ruins your Friday more than realizing it’s only Thursday.

Despite how LONG this week has felt, it’s actually been great, especially Tuesday night when I taught spin class to ELEVEN people. Remember last week when I taught a private spin class, well this week I was so stoked to teach more people and we had a really awesome class! When I first started there were only middle-aged guys in the room – I have NEVER seen a spin class with more guys than girls but it was awesome. A few ladies rolled in shortly after and rocked out the class. I used the same playlist from last week (because who would know? 😉 ) and it was awesomesauce. I LOVE doing my “Turbulence” drill. It’s only two intervals but I make them HARD. High gear, all out sprint, quads burning, it’s amazing and super sweaty and the perfect “halfway through the class” treat!

Teaching spin at night is tricky for workouts the next morning because I get less than 12 hours of rest between workouts. Yesterday morning, after an exciting night of spin, my legs were toast. I woke up and thought that it might just be one of those loosen-up-on-the-run kind of days but I got 3 slow miles into my run and realized it just wasn’t going to happen. I cut it short (it killed me to manually press “cool down” on the treadmill and not finish my intended workout) but I still wanted to try and loosen up my legs a bit.

I jumped on the elliptical for 30 minutes. The man next to me on the elliptical said, “Didn’t you just come from the treadmill? Do you love cardio or something?” Yes, yes I do sir. I was SO done with the elliptical when my 30 minutes was up, I just get so bored. Somehow it is WAY different than a treadmill and I can keep myself entertained for hours on the treadmill but not the elliptical. When I first got into more habitual and routined fitness years ago I did the elliptical for 30 minutes EVERY DAY. I hated running at the time (*gasp*) and wanted to get a bit of cardio every day so I did the same thing every day at the same time… the elliptical. My first gym didn’t even have TVs on the cardio machines… how on earth did I not going insane?

I really don’t know how I did it but it was a good starting place for me at the time. Now that I have branched out to other hamster-wheel-type cardio contraptions like the treadmill and stair master, I am much happier. It’s weird to think how much my fitness routine has changed since the elliptical era of my life, and thank goodness it did.
