3 weeks down; only 13 weeks to go! I will be the first to admit I overdid it on Tuesday with 2.5 hours of tough exercise and it led to hurtin’ the rest of the week and not feeling like I was performing at my absolute best. Lesson learned. I had my first session of 800m repeats this week, and I even had a cheerleader to help me through them! (Shawn: I apologize for all of the things I yelled at you during this speed work… it was the interval talking 😉 )
Yesterday was actually a really great run. I felt great running at about 9:13 min/mile so once I warmed up, I just stayed there. Long runs for me are about going slow and building my endurance; NOT my speed. As for finding the purpose of each run, the LSD (long slow distance) is not about maxing my heart rate, it is as much about building mental endurance as it is physical endurance. I did my run on the treadmill… who’s shocked?
During the last 3 miles of my run, my podcast had ended, and ALL I could think about was fresh oranges. I just wanted to eat oranges all day long so on my way home from the gym I bought a bag of oranges.
I had a banana before my 12 miler; I should really be starting to add fuel DURING my runs but my stomach is so sketch, I usually wait until runs that are longer than 13 miles to eat during my run. I did drink water though *pats self on back.* I was hella hungry when I had showered, so I made some delicious pancakes for
breakfast lunch brunch.
In a blender I added 1/2 cup of oatmeal, ground it up, then added 1 tbsp of flax seed, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1/3 cup soy milk, 1 tsp brown sugar, and blended it all. I stirred in some fresh raspberries and cooked up the pancakes on the griddle! Perfection. Oh and if you want to get all label-y, these are vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, gluten free, or you could just label them delicious.
I promptly drove to Starbucks to meet my friend and drink all the coffee after I had finished
photographing eating my pancakes. Post-run coffee chats are the best. A pretty successful week of training for me because I really feel like I nailed my speed workout and was able to get all of my miles in BUT I over did my cardio on Tuesday and got caught up in how much I loved my gym’s ellipticals and spent way too much time on there AFTER an hour spin class. My calves were killing me for days after that episode and I have learned time and time again that more isn’t always better 🙂 How excited was I to start my March Squat Challenge? THIS EXCITED.
50 squats busted out after my 12 mile run. I had my brother screaming “LOWER” at me the whole time so that was a fun way to kick off the challenge. Perfect form is key and I am planning on keeping form all the way up until day 30 which calls for like 80173893 squats.
How was YOUR week of training?
All of those peeps that ran Phoenix this weekend – how did it go?!
The ultimate question: pancakes or waffles?
