If you ask me what I did yesterday, I would probably have to say, “nothing.” I truly had the most relaxing birthday yesterday and it was incredible. I wasn’t scheduled to work, I didn’t have class, and I didn’t have a care in the world. I could have accomplished a whole lot with that kind of time on my hands, you know like finishing a final paper, reading articles for my Wednesday community research class, amending my research ethics application… but I didn’t, and I don’t regret it 🙂
I started my day about 4 hours later than normal. I rolled out of bed around 8:30am. I didn’t really know what to do for a workout because I needed to keep this whole “healing properly” thing going and not run on my still-sore foot! I ate breakfast, opened gifts, and lazed around for a couple of hours before heading to the gym. I enjoyed a yogurt bowl with fruit and a bowl of oatmeal with soy milk.
My grandma gave me a Flipbelt for running for my birthday – I’ll let you know how that goes! I have heard great things from Jen about the Flipbelt so it will be a nice addition to my ever-expanding running gear selection. My grandma also included a gift card in the belt. She is so punny. In case you were wondering where I get my hilarity from… my dad and grandma gave me some humorous genes. Even though I turned 22, I will be forever 21 😉
At the gym I hopped on the spin bike and blasted my favourite songs. I did a basic distance ride and didn’t do hills or even get off the saddle very much because it hurt to put pressure on my foot standing on the bike. I cruised for an hour at between 95 and 110 rpm.
I came home to stretch, roll, and ice. I think I’m on the mend, but whenever you can still “feel” the injury, it’s still an injury, so I am sticking with my scheduled no-run day today and seeing how it goes. It seems injuries are contagious because Crystal @ Running with Rhyno seems to be experiencing some no-running time as well! It was a good sweat sesh on the bike and I look forward to my spin class tonight! I had a delicious salad with my favourite toppings and a pita and hummus for lunch. Roasted butternut squash is AHHHHH-MAZING on salad.
I did a few errands, mostly picking up Starbucks and buying a birthday present for myself, but it sounds more productive when I say “errands.” I have been meaning to pick up some new shoes for my strength training days so I accomplished that today with a trip to Sportchek. Everyone who buys training shoes buys Nikes, but these New Balance felt the best for me! Plus, they are so cute!
I did some baking in the afternoon, and then made chickpea and corn burgers with a side of cauliflower and potato soup for dinner. Homemade veggie burgers are a must on a FIFTEEN degree day. It could have just as easily been -15 and snowing on my birthday because a March birthday in Canada is unpredictable, so I took advantage of the sunshine to enjoy BBQ birthday dinner! I had some dark chocolate for dessert. I am on a mission to find the best dark chocolate on the market, and I’m taking this very seriously 😉 Camino is really creamy, especially considering it’s 80% dark chocolate!
Thank you everyone for your birthday comments, texts, emails, Facebook messages, and tweets! I feel so loved!! It was such a relaxing day! I think the only significant difference between being 21 and being 22 in my life is when I step on the treadmill and it asks for my age I will have to think twice about it 😀
