Yesterday, I went out for a shake-out run in the early morning. Shake-out runs are intended to get the legs loose and reduce the stress of the race the next day but somehow they increase my stress! I struggle with a certain “easy” pace and think, ‘How am I going to run faster for a whole lot longer tomorrow?” Oh well, I took it easy and practiced my self-timer running photos. I’m glad it was early and I saw no one on the trail as I ran back and forth in front of my phone.
I came home and showered up, enjoying a delicious bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. My aunt had Trader Joe’s roasted salted pecans in her pantry and they were AMAZING. I don’t ever eat salted nuts so having them as a treat makes them even better. I loaded my oats with flax, chia seeds, two eggs whites, and banana.
After breakfast I headed to Eau Claire market in Calgary to meet a few fellow Alberta bloggers. There are quite a few local bloggers running this morning at the Calgary marathon so we met up for a pre-race tweet-up. I had never met any of these people before but I felt like I knew them because I read their blogs on the daily. These ladies are just as sweet and awesome as you would imagine.
All three of those gorgeous girls are running the half marathon this morning so cheer really loud from wherever you are reading this right now! We met a few other bloggers and social media gurus and spent time tweeting, instagramming, and hanging out! Yes… I am extremely tall.
From the tweet-up my mom and I headed to the Calgary Marathon expo to pick up our race packages. My mom changed her race from the half marathon to the 10K and she will be walking the race this morning! We moved through the expo at lightning speed and then headed out to Canmore for lunch! We went to Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. for lunch and it was incredible. I got the ‘Farmer’s Market’ flatbread and it was delicious!!
We had a nice relaxing dinner and evening last night watching hockey and hydrating like mad. I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of the 10K race! Happy race day!
