HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome to another edition of Fitness Friday! Not sure what it’s about check out the original post HERE! I am so excited to once again be hosting a link-up for Fitness Friday, a chance to share a fitness related link, whether it’s a recap of your workouts, a vent about something fitness-related, some tips and tricks for the gym, or some New Years resolutions, feel free to add your link at the bottom!
I took a Christmas break from hosting Fitness Friday last week so I have some workout recaps to catch up on! I have officially completed my 10 week strength training challenge. I entitled this challenge “Finish Strong” because my goal was to finish 2015 STRONG. I had a decent year of running, completely the Chicago Marathon, but I had a few nagging running injuries that just would not quit and I got frustrated with running and decided to focus on strength.
I did a bit of a recap of how my mental state and my body have changed as I focused on strength training in the gym instead of running HERE, and in short, I think I hit my goals in a major way. One thing I learned from this challenge is that my body will adapt to what I do.
Our bodies have this amazing way of adapting and adopting our changes in fitness routine. I didn’t miss a single strength training workout and I have the muscle to show for it, but I do miss my cardiovascular fitness capacity. It didn’t totally disappear as I was still running 2-3 times per week and teaching 3 spin classes a week, but I feel like every time I ran it was such a struggle and I usually cut it off between 3 and 5 miles. I may be just a little excited to focus on running again. The struggle is going to come when I try to once again balance strength training and running. Stay tuned on Monday for the reveal of my new challenge called, “Project Birthday Bod.”
Here is a look at the workout recaps of weeks 9 and 10 of my Finish Strong challenge. I did my Friday upper body workout on Tuesday so I could enjoy a day off on Christmas Day. My gym is closed (like it should be) on Christmas so I took the opportunity to not workout and just enjoy time with family. I also took the last two days of the year off after waking up sick and exhausted from being sick!
I can’t wait to start my new challenge and get back to healthy eating after indulging a little too much this holiday season. My mom and I are trying to work as a team to support each other and get back to more vegetables and less sugar and we are MORE than ready to start! Happy New Year everyone!
