Weekending & Back to Winter.


On Thursday night I worked until 10pm, which meant that my hour walk home pushed my bedtime to past 11pm. I couldn’t bear to set my alarm for before 5am so I set it for 7am and slept a glorious 8 hours. I had a meeting out of town for close to five hours, so I got home close to 3pm. I hit up the gym for my shoulder, hip, and calf strength workout, and came home expecting to run but it was a complete DOWNPOUR. I really had my heart set on running but I knew it would be awful to run in crazy winds and just when I thought about stepping outside and getting it the hell over with, it hailed.


I cut my losses, changed out of my running clothes, and went out for dinner with my fam jam to our favourite local wood oven pizzeria. We have started going fairly regularly and most of the staff members know us… it’s embarrassing. I tried to keep things moderately healthy and had the roasted vegetable and goat cheese salad… but a salad just looks depressing next to these fantastic pizzas.


Once we got home I forced my mom to go for a walk with me now that it had stopped raining, just so I could get my 10,000 steps in. IT WAS MY APRIL GOAL OKAY?! I’M NOT CRAZY! We walked for about 45 minutes and hit 10,000 a block away from my house. Boom.



I slept 11 hours on Friday night. Yeah, this is getting ridiculous. I’m going to blame my loss of iron from the blood donation and say I really needed that sleep. I rolled out of bed, planning on getting my shortened “long run” done before breakfast. 6 miles later I showered, dressed, and made the best brunch ever. Sweet potato waffles, tofu sausage, and an apple. YUM.


The rest of the day was spent shopping with my momma, buying cute dresses for upcoming conferences and weddings, drinking Starbucks lattes to keep us warm in the weird winter temperatures, and getting our nails done. We spent the evening with a few close friends in our neighbourhood and then I headed to bed moderately early to be somewhat awake for work the next morning.


I was a super nice and generous person and helped a coworker out with a shift Sunday morning. It sounded like a good idea at the time but as my alarm went off at 5:45am, I cringed at how selfless of a person I was. 😉 The shift actually flew by, and before I knew it I was headed home around 1:30pm. I changed into workout gear, left the house, and hit up the ONLY (sad face) outdoor stairs in my city, the two-flight staircases that surround our city hall. I made up my workout as I went, but got a TON of stairs in, a bit of running, and some jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and mountain climbers. I spent 45 minutes going hard before I was completely wiped!


I came home, quickly showered, then walked to the local pizza place we hit up two nights previous, this time to celebrate a friend’s birthday! I caved and got a pizza and it was delicious and so totally worth it. We chatted over an early dinner before I walked home in the crisp winter-ish air.


That was a wrap for my weekend! I had initially planned on going to Canmore to visit my friend Jo and do some adventuring but the windy and snowy conditions didn’t make for the best hiking weather. I was so disappointed not to go but I know we have plenty of adventures in the near future. Only three more sleeps until I leave for Vancouver to run the BMO Vancouver half marathon!

  1. I definitely agree with Jen – wood fired pizza is so good. Have you ever been to Rocky Mountain Flatbread in Canmore? Next time you’re in town, let’s go there for pizza + beer after, mmkay?
