Goal so hard: April.

I just want to start by saying thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes! I am still someone who absolutely loves their birthday and I am so happy I was able to share it with the wonderful people in my life. Today I am going to recap how I did with my March goals and what my new month goals are for April because guess what – that’s TOMORROW!

You can probably tell based on THIS post, that March was one of my most successful months with it comes to these monthly goals and challenges. I started the month with two simple goals: to challenge myself to remove added sugar from my diet and to take the stairs to my office an increasing amount over the month. I NAILED IT. Not only did I absolutely thrive on the reduced sugar diet and really enjoy it, I also hit those stairs and hit them hard.

I survived 29 days of no added sugar, up until my birthday yesterday in which I really challenged those insulin secretions in my body by blasting it with more sugar in one day than I have seen in the entire month. #noregrets I am really happy to continue eating relatively the same way into April and beyond.

I overachieved my stair goal. I started with trying to climb the 19 flights of stairs to my office once in the first week of the month. My idea was to then do it twice the second week, three times the third week, and beyond, but I ended up doing the stairs at least once a day with one of my coworkers! It was so nice to have someone to do it with and we usually just randomly picked a time throughout the day when we were freezing and needed to warm up or had been staring at our computers too long and needed a break. We discovered a great routine as well, in which we’d do 5 flights at a time and then cross to the opposite stairwell and do the next 5 so we’d have a quick walking break where we could catch our breath. Worked like a charm. It actually gives you quite the energy boost to just get up, get the heart pumping a bit and the body moving around! There were definitely days we wished we didn’t work on the 19th floor, but overall it was such a great monthly goal that has now become a workplace routine!

After the booming success of March (which I’m pretty sure I called when I wrote those goals and said March is MY month to just own it), April has a lot to live up to. I have decided to do the 30-day squat challenge for the month of April. I absolutely love squats so it won’t be a challenge to do them… though these numbers certainly scare me a little bit. I have written each day’s squats in my day planner so there are no excuses to miss a day!

*29 minutes of thinking about a second April goal*

I have decided to stick with the one April goal. I have had so much success with the stair and nutrition challenges of March that in an effort to incorporate those into my daily life, they aren’t really “goals” anymore than they are habits now. I thought about reading more or spending more time outside, but those are things I’ve naturally been doing and it’s hard to pinpoint another part of my life that I want to challenge myself to be better at. I am in no way perfect but slowly building healthy habits that make me happy has been a pretty steady trend in 2017 and I think it’s going to continue without a tough April goal I set for myself. I am sticking with the 30-day squat challenge and expect Beyonce legs and butt by the end. No big deal.
