Birthday weekend recap.

As I write this, I am beyond exhausted. I just spent my evening cramming the adulty domestic parts of the weekend into a few hours to try and get ready for the week but all for good reason as I was able to spend my birthday weekend in Calgary with my mom! After taking the afternoon off on Thursday, I took Friday off to head to Calgary for a weekend of shopping, food, and fitness.

My mom picked me up and we went straight to CrossIron Mills Shopping Centre and spent a few hours getting down to business shopping. I had a few things in mind that I was looking for but really just needed to freshen up my wardrobe and buy some work shoes for spring. We went to Chinook Centre so I could show my mom my dream fitness closet – the SportsChek Womens store. We spent another few hours shopping – until our feet hurt, we couldn’t carry our bags anymore, and we needed a drink. We checked in to our hotel downtown then headed our for drinks and food.

On Saturday we headed to Canmore for a bit of fresh mountain air. The weather had some other plans so I’m thankful we didn’t plan a bigger adventure. It was pretty chilly, windy, rainy, and cold in the mountains so we went for a long walk around Canmore then headed into Communitea to warm up. YOU GUYS. This restaurant – HOW have I never tried it before? SO GOOD.

After a brief wander around downtown Canmore and me mentioning that I was cold 38071 times, we headed back to Calgary. A bit of downtown wandering in Calgary, a failed attempt at using the overly-hot hot tub at the hotel, and we headed to a bar for a drink then made our way to another pub for dinner. We were FREEZING all day and just wanted to crawl into bed to warm up so we headed in for an early night.

On Sunday my mom and I went to the hotel gym for a quick pre-workout workout. I did 10 minutes of incline treadmill walk and 35 minutes of legs. We grabbed a quick breakfast then walked in the hail and snow to Rumble Boxing Studio to meet Jo and her bf for a class. My mom and Jo’s bf hadn’t done a class before and Jo and I get weirdly excited when taking people to new torturous fitness classes. It was totally a harder class than last time I went, it was NONSTOP and a lot more cardio, but it was incredible and once again I’m wishing there was a location in Edmonton. I was dripping by the end and for the rest of the day I felt like my arms were so heavy! If you hadn’t had a chance to check out a class like Rumble, I highly recommend it. I feel like you get a total body workout and it’s so much fun. Plus, if you ever need to relieve stress or get some aggression out – this is perfect.

We had to part ways from Jo and her guy right after class as we had to shower, check out, and hit the road, but it was so nice to be able to sweat with them! On the way home we stopped for lunch with some family. After a nice visit with my Aunt and great Aunt in Airdrie, my mom and I drove through rain, snow, wind, and sun to get back to Edmonton. The Alberta weather was really just indecisive this weekend. If this weekend is any indication of how my year of being 24 is going to go – it’s going to be a good one. What a great weekend and a fun way to kick off 24!
